The Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC), headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, has released the main insights from the Pet Sustainability Track at the Pet Summit 2026, held on 1 April in Orlando, Florida, alongside Global Pet Expo. As a leading international organisation promoting sustainability within the pet industry, PSC brought together experts, brands and NGOs to examine the sector’s most pressing challenges and emerging opportunities.
The sessions confirmed that sustainability remains a top priority for pet owners, with more than $2 billion in U.S. sales of sustainability‑certified products in 2025. Speakers highlighted the growing impact of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) on packaging decisions, the strategic value of organic certification, and the dual nature of AI, which offers efficiency gains but also environmental and reputational risks.
The programme also showcased the momentum behind higher‑welfare farming, supported by ASPCA initiatives, and emphasised that ingredient selection is the most powerful lever for reducing the environmental footprint of pet food. The overarching message was clear: sustainability is not a single action but a system of interconnected choices, from formulation to packaging.
PSC encourages companies wishing to advance their sustainability journey to join its community and access tools, benchmarks and expert support. More information is available at petsustainability.org.
