Kormotech, a global Ukrainian‑born company specializing in high‑quality pet food for dogs and cats, is driving innovation in pet nutrition with the development of recipes inspired by traditional dishes adapted for animals, including borscht, paella and liver with apples. These creations are part of the work carried out by the company’s New Product Development (NPD) team, established in 2017 and combining marketing, science and food technology to take each innovation from concept to shelf.
The process begins with an in‑depth analysis of trends, pet parent needs, emerging ingredients and new technologies. Based on this foundation, the team defines the product concept, target audience and differentiating value compared to existing alternatives. The collaboration with chef Yevhen Klopotenko illustrates this approach: the company identified that consumers were seeking emotional experiences in addition to nutrition, and explored which human dishes could be safely adapted for pets. After discarding numerous options, the team selected recipes whose ingredients could be balanced in terms of proteins, fats and micronutrients.
Each development takes around a year and includes formulation, production trials, stability studies and packaging design. Palatability is a key criterion: products must achieve a minimum consumption rate of 90%. Professional panels, internal testing groups and veterinarian‑supervised trials ensure this standard is met.
