GAPFA releases its Q1 2026 newsletter highlighting strengthened collaboration with WOAH

The Global Alliance of Pet Food Associations (GAPFA) has published its Q1 2026 newsletter, outlining several strategic developments shaping the international pet nutrition landscape. One of the central updates is the strengthening of GAPFA’s collaboration with the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), aimed at advancing global standards in animal health and pet nutrition. This reinforced engagement seeks to harmonise technical criteria and support more coherent regulatory frameworks worldwide.

The newsletter also announces the addition of three new affiliate members, expanding GAPFA’s international representation and enhancing cooperation across regional and national associations. Registration is now open for the GAPFA Congress & AGM 2026, which will take place in Ottawa from 21 to 24 June. The event will bring together experts, regulators and industry leaders to discuss regulatory developments, scientific progress and global market dynamics.

On the regulatory front, the newsletter highlights the European Union’s recent decision to introduce historic welfare standards for dogs and cats, a milestone expected to influence policy discussions beyond Europe. The issue also includes a regional spotlight on Brazil, which continues to consolidate its position as one of the world’s largest and fastest‑growing pet food markets.
