Purina Pro Plan and FVE open applications for the Nutrition Research Grant 2026 to drive advances in companion animal nutrition

Research in companion animal nutrition takes centre stage once again with the launch of the Purina Pro Plan & FVE Nutrition Research Grant 2026, a joint initiative between PURINA® PRO PLAN® and the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe. Both organisations renew their commitment to supporting innovative projects capable of advancing veterinary nutritional science and improving the health of dogs and cats.

The 2026 edition offers a single €10,000 grant to fund research addressing key areas such as condition‑based nutrition, age‑ or breed‑specific diets, veterinary supplements, and broader nutritional research. The aim is to encourage studies with real impact on clinical practice and on the development of next‑generation diets.

The call is open to a wide range of profiles: clinical veterinarians, researchers, veterinarians in teaching institutions, veterinary students, PhD candidates, and EBVS Residents, all linked to recognised European institutions. In the case of students and residents, proposals must be submitted in collaboration with a supervisor and accompanied by a reference letter. All projects must include ethical approval from the relevant university or faculty, and proposals will also undergo review by Purina’s Internal Ethical Committee.

The timeline sets the opening of applications on 23 September, with submissions accepted until 31 October. Results will be announced on 1 December. Selected projects must complete their clinical phase by June 2027, and submit final results — up to 10 pages plus a poster or equivalent deliverable — by August 2027.

To apply, candidates must submit a single PDF containing the application form, a detailed research proposal (maximum 5 pages), cover letter, project timeline, budget outline, CV, ethical approval, and, where applicable, a supervisor’s reference letter. Applications should be sent by email to goncalo@fve.org.

With this initiative, Purina and the FVE aim to foster scientific talent and support projects capable of positively shaping the future of companion animal nutrition across Europe.
