Spain’s pet food industry grew by 6.1% in 2025

Spain’s pet food industry closed 2025 with solid and sustained growth, reaching a total turnover of €2.178 billion, an increase of 6.1% compared with the €2.053 billion recorded in 2024. The figures, published by ANFAAC (Spanish National Association of Pet Food Manufacturers), confirm the maturity of the sector and its ability to respond to a rapidly evolving market, driven by the growing perception of pets as family members and the demand for more advanced, specialised nutrition.

Growth was led by the feline category, which saw an exceptional rise of 12.2%, reaching €1.039 billion. The dog food segment also expanded, albeit more moderately (+1.1%, €1.139 billion). Within dog food, only dry products declined (–2.1%), while wet food (+15.5%) and snacks (+1.3%) performed positively. In cat food, all categories recorded strong growth: dry (+5.4%), wet (+17.3%) and snacks (+26.7%).

In volume terms, the industry reached 603,527 tonnes, representing a 5.3% increase over 2024. Dog food volume remained almost stable (+0.2%), whereas cat food volume rose significantly (+14.4%). Wet food was the most dynamic category, growing by 20.8% in dogs and 32.7% in cats, reflecting a market trend towards products offering higher palatability, functionality and added value. Snack performance was mixed: a decline in dogs (–5.4%) and growth in cats (+14.1%).

The specialist and online channels continued to expand, with a combined increase of 4.9% in turnover and 4.2% in volume. Growth was driven particularly by the feline segment, which rose by 17.2% across these channels, reinforcing the role of e‑commerce and specialist retail as key engines of category development.

In terms of exports, the Spanish pet food industry maintains a strong presence across the European Union, the Middle East, the Maghreb, Africa, the Americas and Southeast Asia, consolidating its international positioning.

ANFAAC emphasises that these results reflect a “mature, innovative industry aligned with new consumer needs”, where the increasing technical sophistication of pet food and heightened sensitivity towards animal welfare continue to fuel demand.
