GAPFA participates in WOAH’s 93rd General Session and reinforces its commitment to global animal health

The Global Alliance of Pet Food Associations (GAPFA) took part last week in the 93rd General Session of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), held in Paris, joining government representatives, international organisations and sector stakeholders to discuss global priorities in animal health and welfare. GAPFA was formally represented at the meeting, strengthening its role as an international voice for the companion animal nutrition sector.

A key milestone of this year’s Session was the adoption of WOAH’s 8th Strategic Plan for 2027–2031, a comprehensive roadmap aimed at reinforcing national animal health systems, updating international standards and elevating animal health as a global priority. For the companion animal sector, these objectives are closely linked to responsible pet care, the importance of high‑quality nutrition and the protection of the human–animal bond.

Throughout the week, GAPFA engaged with Board Members and colleagues from across the value chain, highlighting the importance of continued collaboration between industry, authorities and international bodies. The organisation emphasised its commitment to supporting WOAH’s work and contributing to global discussions on companion animal health and wellbeing.

GAPFA expressed its appreciation to WOAH Director General Dr Emmanuelle Soubeyran and the WOAH team for a productive and well‑organised General Session.
