Mars marks 115 years as a global business

Mars, Incorporated is celebrating 115 years since Frank C. Mars began making buttercream sweets in his home kitchen in Tacoma, Washington. What started as a one‑man operation has grown into a global enterprise with 170,000 Associates across more than 3,600 sites, while remaining firmly rooted in its identity as a family-owned company with a long-term vision.

That first homemade recipe paved the way for a portfolio of over 130 brands, spanning pet food, veterinary care, science and diagnostics, snacking, and food and nutrition. CEO Poul Weihrauch highlights that Mars’ history demonstrates “the enduring strength of our values and the long-term perspective that comes with being family-owned”, reaffirming the company’s commitment to creating a better world for people, pets and the planet.

Since the 1940s, Mars has been guided by the Five Principles — Quality, Responsibility, Mutuality, Efficiency and Freedom — which have shaped its growth and helped build iconic brands such as M&M’S®, SNICKERS®, PEDIGREE®, ROYAL CANIN® and BEN’S ORIGINAL™.

With the recent integration of Kellanova, Mars now exceeds $65bn in combined net sales, strengthening its position as one of the world’s largest family-owned businesses. As it celebrates this milestone, Mars remains focused on innovating responsibly and supporting communities while continuing to evolve with the needs of people and pets.
