TRIXIE marks a new milestone as Central Garden & Pet acquires a majority stake

TRIXIE Heimtierbedarf has announced a significant milestone in its corporate journey: Central Garden & Pet has acquired a majority stake in the company, becoming a strategic partner for the next phase of its development. What began in 1974 with Bonnik Hansen’s vision has grown into one of the leading businesses in the European pet industry, supported by the dedication of its employees, the trust of its customers and long‑standing partnerships with retailers and suppliers.

When selecting a partner, TRIXIE prioritised not only strategic alignment but also a shared corporate culture and a long‑term approach to partnership. In Niko Lahanas, CEO of Central Garden & Pet, and Glen Axelrod, SVP Dog & Cat, the company found leaders who recognise TRIXIE’s strengths, share its values and are committed to supporting its continued development on equal footing.

The guiding principle Friends for Life is more than a slogan; it reflects TRIXIE’s philosophy of building lasting relationships with people, their animals, employees and commercial partners. The alliance with Central opens new opportunities for innovation, international expansion and sustainable growth, while TRIXIE’s proven strengths remain at the core of its actions.

The current management team —Dirk Jessen, Burkhard Friedrichsen and Danny Bollerey— will continue to lead the company, with Volker Haak remaining as adviser for the European market.
