The Royal Canin Vet Symposium 2026, held in Montpellier, brought together more than 700 delegates from 80 countries for a two‑day event dedicated to one of the most pressing challenges in veterinary practice: communicating clearly and early about the ageing process in dogs and cats. Under the theme “Entering the age of tomorrow”, the symposium combined keynote lectures, masterclasses and panel discussions centred on improving early recognition and clinical management of senior pets.
Royal Canin presented findings from a global survey of 19,000 pet owners, revealing widespread misconceptions about ageing. In the UK, 35% of owners believed nothing could be done to support ageing pets, half only considered ageing when health issues appeared, and 22% were unaware that conditions such as diabetes become more common with age.
International speakers addressed strategies to enhance clinical care, from shifting the focus from lifespan to healthspan, to the role of AI in supporting veterinary teams. The company also launched “Healthy Ageing Conversations”, a practical tool designed to help veterinary professionals initiate discussions with owners before ageing signs become urgent.
Delegates also toured Royal Canin’s original manufacturing site, founded in 1968, which today serves as the blueprint for its 17 scientific production plants operating across 120 markets.
